Arundel Lido Project LEAP
The Lido Extended Activities Plan is progressing as “Project LEAP”.

Project LEAP aims to provide Arundel Lido with a new building, giving us:

  • A Gym (with top quality equipment)
  • A Multi-Purpose Hall (for classes, events & functions)
  • An Indoor Café/Snack Bar
  • Heated Changing Rooms (with showers, toilets & lockers)
  • An Extended Swim Season (given the new Heated Changing Rooms)

Our Consultation Questionnaire (in 2015) confirmed the local demand for these facilities and an independent Latent Demand survey (in 2017) ratified this.

We received generous grants from Arun District and Arundel Town Councils and the Coast to Capital Growth Fund to help us undertake the work necessary to prepare a formal Planning Application. The total cost of this preparatory work has been some £130,000.

We appointed Adam Richards Architects in March 2017 and formally accepted their design plans for the new building in September. Our Planning Authority (South Downs National Park) has indicated its support for the design of the new building, which has also been “firmly supported” by the Trustees of Arundel Castle, and their Graces the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk have become Patrons of Project LEAP. Assuming we have obtained Planning Permission (in early-2018), you will be hearing a lot more about Project LEAP!

Love your Lido
Arundel Lido is a very special place where, for more than 50 years, children have learnt to swim and families have enjoyed a wonderful day out. It is a friendly place where children meet up after school on summer afternoons and adults make new friends and acquaintances at the Early Birds and Swallows Clubs.

The location of Arundel Lido, in the heart of the historic town of Arundel, is arguably the best of any open-air pool in the country, offering views of the magnificent Arundel Castle on the hill overlooking the pool.

In 1999, when the Arundel Lido was closed, the local community realised that an irreplaceable asset was in danger of being lost forever. Thankfully the Lido was saved through hard work, public support and fundraising. A community lido needs ongoing support to flourish. Do not wait for the Lido to be at risk again: you can be proactive and offer your support now. In short show that you Love your Lido.
